Fellow Tea Party Patriots,

Patriot Call to Action:
As you may have read, our elected leaders continue their never-ending efforts to pass some form of a government takeover of health care.  Though the public has spoken clearly and told the politicians to kill the bill, they are still not listening.  Amazingly, and despite overwhelming public disapproval, they are now discussing a second stimulus bill.  And to top it off, they are now working to increase the national debt ceiling yet again.  Our national debt is already intolerable and now the irresponsible politicians in Congress want to increase it by $1.9 trillion to $14.3 trillion!  Our country is crippled by debt, yet our elected officials seem unable to get a handle on their fiscal obesity, and it appears they are committed to a course of national economic suicide.
Tea Party Patriots stand for fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government, and free markets.  None of the proposed bills even remotely fall within our core values.  Government taking over our health care is certainly not smaller, limited government.  Increasing spending and increasing debt is fiscally irresponsible.  An ever-expanding government waistline, especially during a time of fiscal crisis is the height of irresponsibility, and the American people understand this.  When will those in power learn to be responsible?
When the tea party movement began last February, the President insisted the stimulus must be passed to prevent unemployment from going above 8%.  Today, the unemployment rate is at 10%.  Eighty percent of Americans know a friend, family member, or neighbor who has lost their job.  Contrary to the disingenuous statements of politicians, the stimulus is not working.  We knew it wouldn't work last February when we went out to the first tea parties on February 27th to protest a government out of control.  We stood firm in the face of constant attacks from those in power, and now we must continue working to prevent the government from taking over more of our lives and being even more irresponsible with our tax money.
Taking leadership is a patriot trait. Patriots across the nation are demanding that we no longer simply react to what the majority in government are doing to fatten the nation's debt and destroy our country's health care system.  You have demanded we be proactive, and to that end, we are asking Tea Party Patriots to do several things on Wednesday, January 27th, the day of the President's State of the Union speech.
Declaration of Health Care Independence
More than 61% of Americans say it is time to drop government takeover of health care.  Congressmen Michele Bachmann, Steve King, and Louie Gohmert have created a Declaration of Health Care Independence and asked for input from our Local Coordinators as they developed it.  Tea Party Patriots is endorsing the Declaration of Health Care Independence.
For those within driving distance of DC, we invite you to attend the Tea Party Patriots Press Conference on Wed. January 27th at 1 p.m. at the National Press Club (529 14th Ave NW, Washington, DC 20045) when we announce our endorsement of the Declaration and encourage our elected officials and all Patriots to pledge their support.
Check web site for the Declaration of Health Care Independence Pledge to sign.  We should have the pledge online in the next few days.
Fiscal Reform Amendment
The debt ceiling has increased from approximately $10.62 trillion to $12.33 trillion in the last year.  Now Congress is considering raising the limit to $14.3 trillion!
Instead of increasing the debt ceiling, Senator Tom Coburn has the novel idea to cut spending and leave the debt ceiling alone. The government has gotten fat for years off the American taxpayer by creating more and more programs that do exactly the same thing. For example, there are more than 14 programs administered by the U.S. Department of Education related to foreign exchanges and designed to increase opportunities for students to study abroad.
This amendment to the currently proposed federal debt increase will put the federal government on a massive diet by reducing redundant programs, releasing unspent funds to pay down the debt, thereby saving the taxpayers billions of dollars each year. It will cut spending by $120 billion, consolidate 640 duplicative government programs, and prevents politicians from pursuing the fiscal obesity plaguing our nation.
